The Lean and Mean Challenge could not have come along at a better time for me. I had worked hard most of 2009 training with Sally Spooner to reach my weight loss and fitness goals. Then, from the day after Thanksgiving, until a few days before Christmas, I followed my first detoxification plan, after which I felt great. I had so much energy! During the winter holidays, I spent two weeks visiting family, skiing, and enjoying New York City. I needed to get back to my routine! After all, I was just about 10 lbs. away from my goal but I knew those last 10 lbs. could be the slowest, and most difficult ones to get rid of.
The BB3 Breakthrough Seminar, which introduced the challenge, was powerful and motivating. Breaking the board with my hand was symbolic of all I had achieved so far, and all that I still wanted to accomplish. The challenge has been a long, intense, and difficult process, but now as it winds down, I think of it more of a blessing and an opportunity to renew and reinforce many of the principles I had been learning with Sally along my journey. At the outset, I didn’t think that I would be able to keep up with the increased intensity of my workouts, but now I have grown accustomed to them. I also didn’t think that I would be able to adhere to the strict nutritional requirements, which seemed unimaginable at first, but now “no wheat and no dairy” has become my norm.
At the beginning of the challenge, Sally measured my body fat percentage, which was impossible to measure when I started training in May 2009. This number gave me a whole new perspective and shifted my focus from losing weight, to lowering that percentage, and continuing to build lean muscle tissue. Sally constantly encouraged me to push through the grueling workouts, and keep working even harder to get to that next level of fitness. The lean and mean challenge has been just what I needed to get me to my goal. Now, it’s time to set a new one!
